5 Tips for Keeping Your Kids Organized for Camp

5 Tips for Keeping your Kids Organized for Camp

Summer is officially in full swing, bringing new schedules and routines for many families. For kids attending day camps, parents are often all too familiar with the morning scramble to find essential items needed for various activities. However, with a few simple steps, you can help your child establish a routine for packing and unpacking their camp bag. Involving children in the process, helps them to develop important life skills while making your family's summer days run more smoothly.

  1. Designate a Camp Area:

  • Create a specific spot in your home for all camp-related items. Use a cubby, bin, or shelf to keep everything in one place. This includes sunscreen, a hat, towel, water bottles, or anything specifically needed for your child’s camp.

2. Label Everything:

  • Use waterproof labels to clearly mark your child’s name on all items, including clothing, backpacks, water bottles, and lunch boxes.

3. Pack in Zipper Bags:

  • Use clear zipper bags to pack sunscreen, bathing suits, change of clothes, etc.… This helps to keep everything organized and easy to grab. It’s especially helpful for wet swimsuits or sweaty clothes to keep everything else dry and clean.

4. Create a Daily Checklist:

  • Keep a simple daily checklist and camp calendar in your designated camp area so you and your child can ensure that they have everything they need each day.  Some days might requite a bathing suit and towel, some days might have a special theme, or require something specific for a field trip.

5. Establish a Routine:

  • Set up a routine for unpacking and repacking items daily. Encourage your child to unpack their bag taking out wet and dirty clothes, lunch bags, water bottles and any snacks.  Make sure your camp area has everything needed to repack their bag for the next day.
